Durrington Community Choir
Hannah Sandu formed Durrington Community Choir in 2016 to provide a choir for the local community of Durrington and surrounding areas. The village was already well known for its wind band and, sensing an opportunity to create a similar environment for singers, the choir was started with the ethos of fostering a love of singing and bringing people together to improve not only their vocal ability but friendships and a sense of belonging.
Starting with simple two and three part songs and twenty singers the choir has since grown to over forty members to become a four part ensemble comprising soprano, alto, tenor and bass. It meets not only to sing but to gather socially with post choir pub nights and other events.
The choir is a non auditioned group who learn through a variety of methods including using sheet music, lyric sheets and aurally. Progress is enhanced with teaching tracks and there is no pressure to read music or have any previous vocal experience. We perform a wide variety of music, from pop, to classical and music theatre in local churches, community centres, theatres and schools.
We are excited about what the future holds for us and are always seeking to perform in new venues and to new audiences. Should you wish to try us out or invite us to perform at an event please pop along to a rehearsal and we would be delighted to meet you. We rehearse at Durrington Community Church on a Monday evening from 7-9pm. For more details, please visit our Facebook page or website, www.durringtoncommunitychoir.org
